Description: Honolulu theatre impresario, Burton White, hosts an hour-long presentation called “Hapa Haole Hollywood” which focuses on the impact of hapa haole music in Hollywood from 1937 when Harry Owens’ “Sweet Leilani,” sung by Bing Crosby, lifted the American recording industry out of the Great Depression, to 1942 and the advent of World War II. With audience invited to get up and dance hula and partake in light refreshments, White will highlight hapa haole music and hula from movies such as “Waikiki Wedding,” “Honolulu,”, “In the Navy,” “Song of the Islands,” “Hawaii Calls,” “The Revolt of Mamie Stover,” and more.
