First Peoples Fund Professional Development Workshop

First Peoples Fund Trainers

Theresa Secord & Ron Martinez Looking Elk

Native Hawaiian artists participated in the First Peoples Fund’s Professional Development Workshop at PA’I Arts & Culture Center this past weekend. FPF trainers Theresa Secord (Penobscot basket weaver) and Ron Martinez Looking Elk (Taos Pueblo, pottery) shared personal experiences and best practices of their journey towards the development of their art as a profession. Ron and Theresa were joined by Keone Nunes who shared valuable tips on how to identify, define and clarify the artists objectives and goals to help our artists focus and strategically plan for achieving their goal of becoming a successful artist who can sustain themselves and their families by promoting and marketing their art.

Blaine Fergestrom, popped in on Saturday afternoon to show our artists how easy it is to set up and update their own websites. Let’s follow www.maileandrade.com and see how she’s doing on her website…yesterday, it was just a shell on godaddy.com. Let’s see how long it takes for her to get up and running!

The First Peoples Fund Workshop is made possible through generous funding from the Ford Foundation, Native Arts and Cultures Foundation, Artspace, Mayor’s Office of Culture and Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts Our Town.
