Pua Aliʻi ʻIlima was invited to dance at the Pan Pacific Hula Exhibition (PPHE) in Japan from October 19th-24th.  The Pan Pacific Hula Exhibition is put on by Kohala Company under the direction of Hide Naritomi, in collaboration with Kumu Hula Robert Cazimero.  This year’s PPHE took place in Osaka and Tokyo, with one concert per venue.  Kumu Hula Vicky Holt Takamine was in charge of the opening and closing numbers at this year’s PPHE.  The concerts opened with “Poliahu” a hula pahu for the snow goddess Poliahu who resides on Mauna Kea, and closed with the classic “Dancing Under the Stars” with all the ladies in white holokū and the men singing in a back up choir for Robert.  They were truly magical concerts.  Pua Aliʻi ʻIlima would like to mahalo Hide Naritomi and Kohala Company for their generosity, kindness and hard work.  Without them, PPHE would not be possible.  We would also like to mahalo Robert Cazimero for inviting us and giving us the honor of dancing with him in Japan.  Also, a special mahalo to Sky Yim, whose hard work and attention to detail did not go by unnoticed.  Mahalo to everyone for making this trip enjoyable and one to remember.
